Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

Marcel Jobin was born on January 3, 1942 in Parent, Abitibi. At age 6, his parents moved to Mauricie and he still lives there for almost 70 years.
From a very young age, he played a lot of sports: hockey, racket, bike, canoe and it was at the age of 16, in 1958, that he participated in his very first athletics competition, a race of 10,000 meters.

Having the sting for running, he starts training everyday ... the curious did not understand what a young man could do well, dressed in tracksuit and walking in a funny way over several kilometers ... and so it was called "The crazy man in pajamas"!
In 1968, he began the Olympic march and the following year, he won the silver medal at the Canada Games, the first medal for Quebec.
In 1971, he qualified and became a member of the Canadian team at the Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia. He finished 4th in the 20km and 6th in the 50km, becoming the first Canadian to cross the finish line in both disciplines.
In 1976, he saw his first Olympic experience by participating in the Olympic Games in Montreal. He finished in 23rd place and was acclaimed by the crowd when he arrived at the stadium. This moment remains, to this day, one of the most beautiful moments of his career of athlete.
The year 1979, he scored a time of 1:29:12 in the 20 km and became the first Canadian to do the test under 1:30. That same year, he won the prize of the amateur athlete par excellence of the prestigious Gold Medal Club.
In 1980, he qualified for the 20km and 50km events for the Moscow Olympics. Unfortunately, Canada is boycotting its games. He also won the Benjamin-Sulte Award and the Mauricie-Richard Award.
In 1984, he achieved his best performance in the 20km with a time of 1:24:08 in qualifying for the Los Angeles Games.
That same year, he became the first Canadian to walk 50 km under the 4 hour mark.

Marcel Jobin, CAN - M82
