Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes


I took up sprinting in my early 20s with a 12.4s 100m debut. I eventually worked my way down to 11.6s but stayed a club-standard sprinter until I became a Master. I finally acheived my lifetime personal best time of 11.43s for 100m in my first World Championship in 2003 at the age of 43. Since then I have been fortunate to be able to lose my speed at a slower rate than most of my rivals. This has given me the opportunity to win numerous titles and to make lots of friends in the Masters community. Long may it continue.
