Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

Began competing in Masters Track and Field in January, 2016, after a short, 47 year lay off. Was a Shot Putter and Hurdler in High School, so I start in local, "All Comers" meets in the 5K shot. Managed a big 31 feet in my first meet, improved to 35 feet a month later. The remainder of the season I was inconsistent, going from 34-35 feet, until July, when I broke 36 feet, then hit a 37-1 (11.31 meters) in September. Worked hard in the off season, came back with a couple of 11+ in the Winter 2017 meet, and started running the hurdles. In May, hit a 11.33, then an 11.63.

Went to Baton Rouge Nationals and got a Bronze in the shot and the 100 hurdles, owning to the fact that there were only four in my age group, and the fourth guy took a header on the third hurdle, and I only clipped one and had to step over and resume. Came back a couple of weeks later and got a PR in the shot of 11.84... Going for 12 meters now! really cannot believe the progress I`ve made.

Adding to the Bio, Jan 2021
2018 was by far my best season. Went to indoors Nationals in Landover, placed 4th in shot and 7th in Hurdles. That summer, was able to get a 12.34 in the shot, a 20.9 in the 100 hurdles, and began long jumping and throwing the discus.

Goin into 2019, decided to attempt an indoor Pent in Winston Salem. Got 5th in the US... Came back for a 4th in the individual shot . In the summer, jumped 4.11 in the long jump, got a 12.02 in the shot, a 21 flat in the 100 hurdles, and 32 and change in the discus from a stand.

2020 was pretty much a lost ear, but did get in one meet. Waiting for 2021 to open up for track meets again. In May, turn 70, and that opens up a lighter shot (4k), lower hurdles, and the fact that I'll be the youngster in the 70-74 age group
