Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

I was a fairly crappy but very fast left-winger in soccer when I was younger, and my track exploits were limited to about half-a-dozen meets my company was involved in. I started competing in Masters T&F in 2008 after some kids I was coaching in soccer commented on how fast I (still) was when we were doing shuttle runs (suicides) in training.

I found that, even untrained, I was fairly competitive at a local level, and that encouraged me to train and get coached, and as a consequence my performances have not deteriorated much with age - and I have gone from competing just locally to going to international meets.

Stephen Gould, GBR&USA - M67
