Age Grading & Combined Event Scoring

Age Grading is an adjustment for a performance (time, height or distance) based on age – the older you are, the bigger the adjustment. The adjustment, known as an Age Grade Factor, is multiplied by the performance to get an Age Graded Performance so all times, heights or distances for each event by athletes from 20 to over 100 years old can be compared to each other! The Age Graded Performance is the equivalent to what the athlete would have done when they were in their 20s.

Meet the Athletes

I competed in track (primarily the 100 to 400 meters and long jump) and cross-country at Luther Burbank High School in Sacramento, California from 1973-1975 - Go Titans!. I competed in informal competitions when I was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas Nevada from 1975-1978. When I completed my tour of duty in the Air Force, I ran cross-country and the sprints in track at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California from 1978 to 1980. I chose to focus on finishing my degree and did not compete in track at California State University, Sacramento from 1980-1982. I have been playing competitive senior softball from age 56 to the present (age 67). I am waiting for the pandemic to subside so that I can determine whether my body at this stage of my life will allow me to compete in masters track and field. I fully expect this to be a humbling experience at my age, but I am also looking at this opportunity as potentially a new and fun adventure, too.

Harold Holmes, USA - M66
