Mi carrera atlética

Comencé a atletismo en mi juventud y me convertí en campeón juvenil de México en el lanzamiento de martillo. En 1986, rompí el récord mexicano de lanzamiento del martillo con 59 metros. Luego continúe rompiéndolo por un total de 37 veces hasta dejarlo en 71.46. Competí en dos campeonatos mundiales, Tokyo 91 y Stuttgart 93, además de competir en los Juegos Panamericanos, cuarto lugar en La Habana 81 y quinto lugar en Mar del Plata. Además, también competí en cuatro juegos centroamericanos y del caribe, logrando seis medallas, dos de ellas en levantamiento de pesas. Además también competí en el lanzamiento de peso, en el que gané el segundo lugar en el “Chase Millrose Games” en Nueva York. Como atleta de masters, competí en el campeonato mundial de Porto Alegre Brasil, ganando el tercer lugar en lanzamiento de martillo y un segundo lugar en peso de 35 libras

Mi familia también es de atletas, Mi hermana compitió en los Juegos Olímpicos de Atenas 2004. Dos de mis hijos también son atletas; Uno de ellos lanza el martillo y el otro es un velocista.

NCCWMA - visión para el futuro

Mis dos mejores momentos como atleta master, fueron ganar medallas en la Copa del Mundo y ser elegido presidente de este NCCWMA. Es un honor haber sido elegido y espero trabajar con gente muy talentosa y dedicada. Muchos de nuestros representantes de NCCWMA tienen amplia experiencia en sus roles y es emocionante lo que este grupo logrará juntos. El liderazgo de NCCWMA combinará nuestro conocimiento y éxitos para llevar el deporte a todos los países de la región, incluyendo aquellos con pocos participantes, además de renovar nuestro sitio web y tratar de establecer contacto con la iniciativa privada para financiar el funcionamiento de nuestra organización.

En 2012, recibí la Comisión Mexicana de Atletas Masters. Había dos grupos que pudimos unificar. Hemos creado nuestro sitio web y redes sociales, además de una mayor participación en nuestros eventos. Nosotros, por supuesto, tuvimos nuestros desafíos. Encontramos algunos vicios que existieron y hemos estado sancionando a personas tramposas, no hay tolerancia para ellos. Ha habido varios problemas que he resuelto usando mis habilidades y liderazgo. Los atletas de México han reconocido los logros.

Decidí postularme a la presidencia de NCCWMA porque quiero ayudar a nuestra región a beneficiarse de lo que hemos hecho en México y lo que otros, como Rex Harvey, Jerry Bookin-Weiner y Paul Osland han logrado dentro de sus países. Alcanzaremos mucho con todo el talento, conocimiento, experiencia e ideas dentro de nuestro grupo colectivo. Muchas gracias a Sandy Pashkin por todo lo que ha hecho por todos nosotros. Espero que ella me proporcione consejos a mí y a los representantes de NCCWMA además de proveer su invalorable apoyo para nuestro deporte. La NCCWMA hoy es más democrática y todos los representantes tienen sus aportes. Las Asambleas se llevarán a cabo en inglés y español y se centrará en la comunicación en toda la región utilizando nuestro sitio web y las redes sociales.

NCCWMA - METAS:

• Establecer los medios y sus correspondientes mecanismos que permitan propiciar el desarrollo de los atletas masters en la región.
• Realizar seriales de eventos promocionales que permitan llevar el atletismo master a un mayor número de personas.
• Diseñar una ficha de seguimiento a fin de establecer los controles precisos para que puedan darle un adecuado seguimiento a los atletas.
• Necesitamos una NCCWMA con una comunicación más estrecha con sus afiliados. Esto haciendo uso de las nuevas tecnologías a nuestro alcance
• Invariablemente todas las asambleas deberán ser llevadas a cabo en los idiomas español e ingles
• Contar con un plan a corto, mediano y largo plazo a fin de mejorar las condiciones actuales en todos los aspectos.
• Buscar y fortalecer el vínculo con la iniciativa privada y otras organizaciones afines con el propósito de contar con más recursos para nuestra organización

My athletics

I started athletics in my youth and became champion of Mexico in the hammer throwing. In 1986, I broke the Mexican hammer record 59 m. then continued to break it for a total of 37 times until leaving it at 71.46. I competed in two world championships Tokyo 91 and Stuttgart 93 plus competed in the Pan American games fourth place in Havana 81 and fifth place in Mar del Plata. Additionally, I competed in four Central American and Caribbean games achieving six medals, two of them in weightlifting. Also, I threw weight in which I won second place in the Millrose Games in New York. As a masters athlete, I competed in the world championship of Porto Alegre Brazil winning third place in hammer throwing and a second place in 35# weight.

Competing in athletics runs in my family! My sister competed in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Two of my children are also athletes; one of them throws hammer and the other is a sprinter.

NCCWMA - vision for the future

My two greatest moments as a master athlete were winning medals in the World Cup and being elected president of this NCCWMA. It is such an honor to have been elected and I look forward to working with some very talented and dedicated people. Many of our NCCWMA representatives have extensive experience in their roles and it is exciting what this group will accomplish together. The NCCWMA leadership will combine our knowledge and successes to bring the sport to all countries within the region including those with few participants plus renew our website and try to establish contact with the private initiative to finance the operation of our organization.

In 2012, I received the Mexican Commission of athletes masters. There were two competing groups which we were able to unify. We created our website and social networks plus increased participation at our events. We, of course, had our challenges. We found some vices that existed and we have been banning cheating people - there is no tolerance for them. There have been several problems that I have solved using my skills and leadership. Athletes of Mexico have recognized the accomplishments.

I decided to run for NCCWMA presidency because I want to help our region benefit from what we’ve done in Mexico and what others, like Rex Harvey, Jerry Bookin-Weiner and Paul Osland, have accomplished within their countries. We will accomplish much with all the talent, knowledge, experience and ideas within our collective group. Many thanks to Sandy Pashkin for all she has done for all of us. I hope she will provide council to me and the NCCWMA representatives in addition to providing her invaluable support for our sport. NCCWMA is more democratic with all representatives having input. We will have the Assemblies held in English and Spanish and focus on communication throughout the region using our website and social media.

NCCWMA - GOALS:

• Establish means and corresponding mechanisms that allow the development of masters athletes in the region.
• Carry out promotional events to bring the master athletics to a greater number of people. Design a follow-up to establish the precise controls so that they can give an adequate follow-up to the athletes.
• Establish closer communication with NCCWMA affiliates. Use new technologies for more effective communication
• Hold all assemblies in Spanish and English
• Have a short, medium and long term plan to improve current conditions in all aspects.
• Seek and strengthen the link with the private initiative and other related organizations in order to have more resources for our organization
